Gastric Balloon is a non-surgical bariatric procedure used for weight loss purposes. During this procedure, a balloon is placed in the stomach. This balloon, which takes up volume in the stomach, allows you to eat smaller portions and increases the feeling of fullness. The gastric balloon procedure is used as an option for treating obesity and aims to reduce or correct health problems associated with obesity.
Gastric balloon is performed under sedation by endoscopic method. This procedure is performed under sedation and the patient is asleep. Stomach is entered through mouth, primarily esophagus, stomach and part of the duodenum are evaluated. Unless an obstacle to the procedure is detected, an empty balloon is placed and inflated to a suitable amount for the patient. Inflation can take place in two different ways, with air or liquid. Sıvı ile şişirme gerçekleşecek ise, sıvıya metilen mavisi adı verilen renkli bir sıvı eklenirIf swelling with liquid will take place, a colored liquid called methylene blue is added to the liquid. Methylene blue dyes the urine blue-green in cases of perforation and leakage, which are seen very rarely.
Since the gastric balloon will occupy a certain area in stomach, feeling of saturation occurs early.
The biggest difference between gastric balloon application and other bariatric applications is that gastric balloon is removed later. Balloons with a residence time of 6 to 12 months are selected according to the patient eligibility. 2-months balloons can be adjusted when necessary. In case of 6 or 12 months, the balloon is removed under sedation by entering stomach through mouth. In this process, it is aimed for the patient to lose a large part of their excess weight with the help of nutrition plan and recommendations of the physician and dietitian.
Gastric Balloon application takes an average of 10-15 minutes, after 2 hours of observation, patient is discharged and returns to daily life.
